Generic Esbat Ritual

This is a generic Esbat style ritual, although it will depend on your path or tradition variations can be added or removed at choice. This is just a general outline of the most common practices used.

  • Alter
  • Black Candle
  • White Candles
  • Athame
  • smudge stick
  • Incense stick
  • Candle snuffer
  • Cauldron
  • Depictions or ornaments of the Goddess & God
  • Chalice
  • Plate or bowel
  • 1 Black Candle (used to remove negative energy)
  • 2 White candles (Represent the Goddess and God or silver, red, gold)
  • 1 Smudge Stick (For Cleansing)

  1. Prior to the Esbat clean your items and alter with cleansed water, usual a rose water that has been left over night in the moon light and charged.

  2. Prior to ritual take a sacred cleaning shower or bath

  3. When the correct time for the ritual comes, cleanse and smudge the area the ritual will be undertaken

  4. Cast a circle of protection. Deosil direction. If in a group or coven then raise the energy by holding hands and chanting getting louder as you go, a drum has good effect and the beat gets louder and faster.

  5. Summon the Elements. Deosil

  6. Combine the elements Earth Air Fire Water by adding water to earth in a jar and lighting incense with a candle.

  7. Ask for the Goddess and God to be present and any spirits you wish, as you invite them light each candle and welcome them.

  8. Open with: Under the full moon's radiant glow,

    A blessing upon you, I bestow.

    May its light wash away all strife,

    And fill your heart with renewed life.

    With every beam that graces the night,

    May your path be clear, your spirit light.

    Let worries and doubts be gently released,

    As the moon's energy brings you peace.

    Embrace the power the full moon imparts,

    A time for healing and open hearts.

    May you find joy in the lunar embrace,

    And bask in its glow's gentle grace.

    So, under the full moon's enchanting spell,

    May all be well, and all be swell.

    Accept this blessing with love anew,

    As the moonlight shines its magic on you.

  9. Once done you can then proceed to work on group or personal magical manifestations of your choice, healing, binding and others such as divination or asking for certain things.

  10. I use a Sigil to help with manifestations of which I create and then pass to the universe by burning the sigil in the cauldron.

  11. Contemplation – speak with spirit and meditate and visualise. Use music or chanting to aid if required.

  12. Offering, take some wine and bless it offer to Goddess, God & Sprit.

    Then offer to Elementals.

    Offer to others if present in the circle, wine first then bread.

    Take some for yourself.

    Leave some for nature which if left in the open in a garden or windowsill after the ritual.

  13. Closing down – Thank Spirit and the Goddess and Gods and snuff the candles.

    Release the elementals with thanks asking all to stay if they wish and go if they must. Do this in a widdershins direction.

    Take down the protective circle and ground the energy, widdershins direction.

  14. Make any note of spell cast and intentions as a record.
