Hedge Witch

A hedge witch is a term used to describe someone who practices a form of modern witchcraft that is often associated with folk magic, herbalism, and nature-based spirituality. The term “hedge” is derived from the idea of being on the “hedge” or boundary between the mundane world and the spiritual or mystical world. Hedge witches are typically solitary practitioners who work with herbs, plants, and natural elements to create spells, potions, and other magical practices.

Hedge witchcraft is characterised by its emphasis on connecting with the natural world, honouring the cycles of the seasons, and working with the energies and spirits present in the environment. Many hedge witches also incorporate divination techniques, such as tarot reading, astrology, and scrying, into their practices. Additionally, hedge witches may engage in trance-like states, meditation, or journeying to explore the spiritual realms and gain insight.

It’s important to note that modern witchcraft and its various traditions can vary widely, and there is no single “correct” way to be a hedge witch. People who identify as hedge witches often create their own individualized practices based on personal experiences, cultural influences, and spiritual beliefs. As with any form of spirituality or belief system, individual interpretations and practices can differ significantly from person to person.
