Creating a sigil is a practice often associated with chaos magic and other occult traditions. A sigil is a unique symbol or design that represents a specific desire or intent. The process of creating a sigil involves condensing your desire into a graphical form and charging it with energy to manifest your intention in the universe. By creating one it also gives your intent power, prior to a spell create and practice beforehand so that it can be created during your ritual, or it can be created in advance by carving or engraving on wood etc.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create a sigil. Please see featured image above as an example.
1. Define your intent. Be clear about what you want the sigil to represent. It could be a specific goal, a desire, or a positive affirmation. It’s important to have a focused and well-defined intention to give the sigil purpose and power.
a. Destructible sigils are activated by being destroyed. The act of destroying is what creates the burst of energy giving the sigil its power. This is usually done by writing your sigil on a piece of paper and then setting it on fire though you could also carve the sigil onto food and then consume it.
b. Temporary sigils are sigils that will eventually disappear with time. These types of sigils could be drawn on your skin with a marker or carved into a candle which will eventually be melted.
c. Permanent sigils are made to last and are meant to be active for a long period of time. Occasionally permanent sigils are recharged to keep the energy active. Sigils like these could be made into pottery as an art piece or you could write a sigil on a piece of paper to be placed behind a painting or under a piece of furniture.
2. Write down your statement of intent. Formulate your desire in a simple and affirmative sentence. For example, if your intent is to “find inner peace,” your statement could be “I am at peace.”
3. Remove vowels and duplicate letters. Remove all vowels from the sentence and eliminate any duplicate letters. This step is necessary to simplify the statement for the next stage.
4. Create a visual representation. Take the remaining letters and use them to create a unique symbol or design. You can combine the letters in any way that feels visually appealing to you. Don’t worry about artistic skills; the process is more about personal meaning than aesthetic perfection.
5. Enter an altered state of consciousness. Before charging the sigil, it’s common to enter an altered state of consciousness to bypass the conscious mind. You can achieve this through meditation, deep breathing, or any other method that helps you focus and clear your thoughts.
6. Charge the sigil. With your statement of intent in mind, focus your energy on the sigil you created. Visualize it glowing or vibrating with power. You can use various techniques to charge the sigil, such as intense concentration, ecstatic dancing, chanting, or sexual arousal (be mindful of the latter if you’re underage or uncomfortable with this method).
7. Release the energy. After charging the sigil, let go of your attachment to the outcome. This is a crucial step in sigil magic. Some practitioners choose to destroy the physical representation of the sigil (burning, burying, etc.) to release the energy into the universe and allow it to work its magic.
8. Forget about the sigil. Once you’ve released the energy, try not to dwell on the sigil or the desired outcome. Obsessing over it may interfere with the magical process. Trust that your intent has been set in motion and let the universe take care of the rest.
Remember that creating and using sigils is a personal practice, and individual beliefs and methods may vary. As with any magical or spiritual practice, it’s essential to approach it with respect, responsibility, and ethical considerations. Always consider the potential consequences of your desires and actions.
